Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno

The Feast of the Poong Hesus Nazareno is celebrated every January 9, with weekly Friday Novena Masses held on the first Friday of the year. The Black Nazarene is currently enshrined in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila, Philippines.
Poong Hesus Nazareno, known to devotees is a dark-coloured, wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ, believed to be miraculous by many Filipino devotees. For me, it is the perfect image of Jesus Christ's Passion.
My Families devotion started since 1978 when my mother first saw the Poong Hesus Nazareno at Quiapo. I, myself was baptised in the Basilica. I grew up with it's spiritual help. The Poong Hesus Nazareno Sculpture was my 1st image of Jesus Christ. It helped me bigtime. First of all i want to be clear that I am not praising a wooden sculpture.
It is written in the bible in the Book of Exodus 20: Verse 3 “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image - any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. " I believe in the Holy Bible, and I promise to be faithful to GOD's commandments.
Now, here's my story. Why I am a devotee of the Poong Jesus Nazareno? I joined several Catholic catechism study and Bible studies before when i was young. And when I learned about the Passion of Jesus Chirst, it's importance to us, how Jesus save us. The first image that comes to my mind was the sculpture of the Black Nazarene. I was amazed and captured of its capability. The feeling is hard to explain. One time, When I was seriously praying to Lord Jesus at the Basilica, looking towards the Black Nazarene. Jesus came to me. I found myself crying all of a sudden, a lot of tears start to fall from my eyes. It's like being guilty of Jesus Christ's Sufferings. From there on, I started to ask forgiveness on my sins, for the salvation of my soul, to trust God and for Jesus Christ to lead my way to the Kingdom of GOD. Truly I may say, "God moves mysteriously and He truly loves us." This knowledge and belief was the best part of my life. And the way to give thanks and praise to GOD is by helping others righteously.
